ITOCA, RUFORUM Join Hands

In a partnership aimed at leveraging scarce resources, the Information Training and Outreach Centre for Africa (ITOCA) and the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) have come together to work on improving Information Literacy capacity in African Universities. Under this partnership, the two organizations will organize 2-day Information Literacy workshops targeting University Deans and other senior staff. The project aims to institutionalize Information Literacy training for students and staff.
Officially announcing the workshop, RUFORUM said  it is “keen to support her member universities to produce agricultural professionals that understand and can adapt to the characteristics of the Information Age. An information literate agricultural graduate with strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills will definitely be a valuable agricultural professional that would contribute to agricultural development for Africa”. While ITOCA, a capacity building organization, brings its experience in organizing national workshops,  its extensive presence in Sub-Saharan Africa and experienced Trainers.

Under this arrangement, 3 workshops are planned for 2011 starting with the University  Of Zambia 8-9 August, followed by one in Ethiopia in September and ending in Mozambique in October. The expected outcomes of the workshops include:
•    Creating awareness on the importance of Information Literacy
•    Identifying Information Literacy champions that will lead the institutionalization and implementation of Information Literacy Training
•    Getting commitment from University Leadership in terms of supporting Information Literacy programmes.
