Superb Training Courses And Learning Opportunities
Research4Life/TEEAL Programmes Courses
ITOCA has trained over 20,000 academic and research professionals in information literacy courses focusing mainly on the use of e-resources under the Research4Life, TEEAL and CEPD Programme in the last 18 years, more than 200 courses have been delivered in about 30 Sub-Saharan African countries. The courses are funded through contracts with collaborating partners such as the Rockefeller Foundation, Cornell University, CTA, DAAD, FAO, IDS, UNEP, WHO and WIPO. They are largely hosted by local universities and research centres and the courses are tailored to meet the needs of the participating professionals.
The course design and curricula constitutes student-centred learning approaches, hands-on exercises and building facilitation skills for the participants aimed at helping them go back to their institutions and train their colleagues, clients and students.
Marketing and Outreach Programmes
ITOCA spearheads outreach and marketing activities for the TEEAL and Research4Life programmes across Africa. It is engaged by Cornell University-Mann Library and the UN agencies (FAO, WHO, UNEP, WIPO) to promote, train and provide technical support for the information access programmes TEEAL, AGORA, HINARI, OARE and ARDI respectively.
With an extensive network of over 35 representatives and liaisons across the continent, ITOCA manages to provide on-the-ground coverage of the needs in ICT for development in Africa.

and Professional Development (CEPD) Courses
ITOCA launched the CEPD course series on November 23, 2010 for the benefit of professionals who are in need of further skills development in ICT, ICM and related courses. The courses are aimed at enhancing skills for practising professionals through hands-on and practical skills building classes. Participants are able to learn new skills in small, well-coordinated groups where they can interact and benefit through peer-assist and team building activities as they build their careers.
ITOCA’s Continuing Education & Professional Development programme (CEPD) aims to expand delivery of information, communication and technology skills (ICT) to information professionals such as librarians, information specialists, scientists, researchers and students in Africa, especially in Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal, Swaziland, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia. Instructions are delivered through a completely online format and as workshops in South Africa. All courses can be conducted on site at the client’s location.
